What to Expect

PET Theranostics is a referral-only clinic.  We work directly with vets and veterinary specialists to provide superior PET-CT and CT scan capabilities in Australia. Our services are designed to make advanced molecular imaging accessible and practical for vets and veterinary specialists. We collaborate with vets to deliver diagnostic information that improves clinical decision-making and supports the best possible patient outcomes.

Our team will directly coordinate scheduling, patient preparation instructions and logistics with your practice. Patient owners receive a detailed guide prior to the day outlining:

  • Scheduling and administration details.
  • Pre-scan fasting information. Pets are required to fast for between 6 and 12 hours before the scan.
  • Blood glucose check.
  • An overview of safety and timing protocols.
  • Patient management, including tracer administration and sedation or anaesthesia.
  • Scan procedure.
  • Patient recovery. Most pets go home the same day.

The patient will undergo a PET-CT or CT scan at our imaging facility. Our specialist oncology and nuclear medicine team ensures patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure. The patient will undergo:

  • Preparation and blood glucose check.
  • Tracer administration.
  • Sedation or anaesthetic.
  • PET-CT/CT for accurate molecular and anatomical detailing.
  • Tailored imaging protocols depending on the clinical question. Oncology, neurology, bone or inflammation.

The referring vet receives a comprehensive report from our board-certified imaging specialists. Each report includes diagnostic findings and clinically relevant insights to guide your pet’s case management.

  • Detailed interpretation with annotated images.
  • Clear staging and treatment-relevant information.
  • Direct access to our oncologist specialists for case discussion, if required.

“To me, Dr. Lurie is Godsent. He is always available to talk. Dr. Lurie gave us all the time on a call on Saturday morning. He didn’t rush us off the phone; he was patient with all our questions. He answered and gave us more information regarding the treatment than what we had even asked for. I don’t know what good I have done in this lifetime to meet such people. Lucky me! Lucky Sambuca! Sensational. Fantastic. Kind. Fabulous. Gentle. Understanding. Relatable”.

“From the outset, David explained Toby’s diagnosis and the treatment options not only in simple, understandable terms but, most of all, with incredible empathy. David’s honest and patient approach made our decision to undertake radiotherapy treatment so comfortable. David kept us updated on his progress and continued to reassure us. Over two years on, our little fella is still going strong and is heading towards his 18th birthday – every day is a blessing”
